Purpose of Google Sandbox?

Am not sure abt it but i heard that, new websites will be placed in sandbox by google, before adding it to trusted web sites. I think its somewhat like a vault for new websites, under which they will be closely monitored. Anyone pls clarify this...

I believe The Google Sandbox is a holding area for the newly emerging sites.. They are stored there temporarily until they gain more search ratings and are put on hold until they get a good search rating. Once they get enough rating, they are taken from the sandbox and ready for being displayed in the Google Search Results...

Sandbox is a feature. It is a kind of spyware.Google Chrome has it to protect your computer from malicious sites. You can view the videos of Chrome event 7th Dec 2010 to know more about it.
