William Faulkner is most important as probably the most famous Southern Gothic writer from the early 20th century. His writings and his style follow that most closely. He used a highly emotive writing style, and was somewhat decadent in his use of adjectives, adverbs, etc. He also tended to focus very much on the racism and social inequality in the Southern United States. His writing also deals quite a bit with some of the more disturbing and eerie elements of life in the South, but not in a horror or thriller way.
