if you want to make compounds, if im not mistaken you need to synthesize a certain compound from any starting compound and can use any reagents.  They way i studied this when i was in ochem was i made up compounds or looked for some in the book and i flipped to the beggining of the book n grabed any compound and tried to make it from there, its a very good excersize to see if you truely understand what you are doing rather than doing from chapter to chapter memorizing reactions.  DO NOT MEMORIZE reactions if you are going any further in chemistry, you will regret it.
