it is given that the maximum value of x is 0 and minimum value is -2.(i.e. -2<x<0) if x takes the max value, 3x+5 also will take the maximum value therefore the maximum value of 3x+5 is (3*0)+5=5 and if x takes the minimum value, 3x+5 also takes the minimum value. therefore the minimum value of 3x+5 is (3*(-2))+5=-6+5=-1 it is given that a<3x+5<b max value is b which is equal to 5 min value is a which is equal to -1 therefore -1<3x+5<5
