I think material science is study about the materials that are used in manufacturing the engineering(electrical & electronic) devices like diode etc Engineering is about the design and development of hardware or a software

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Material is the development of materials (e.g. learning how to create conductive, semiconductive material in electrical engineering) whereas Engineering is more of learning how to design and be innovative with those materials so that you can create new things.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Science is understanding of nature of each thing at every level. Engineering is just an application of the above and again to every aspect.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

engineering abstracts the data from materials sciences to produce solutions to production problems

Material science more closer to physics..at molecular level and engineering is the purposeful use of physics(application oriented physics)
