First you need to isolate the x in the middle....so subtract 1 from all three parts (the left, middle, and right). So you'll have -2<x<5 and that's the solution since x is by itself now. Then to graph it you draw a number line and color in between -2 and 5. Then at the endpoints you need open circles or rounded parentheses, depending on what your teacher wants.

Well, use whatever notation your teacher used in class or the book uses. We use rounded parentheses in my class, but some use open circles at the ends.
