how?

total length/length of each strike=total no. of strikes

(7/8)/(1/16)

Ok, this is basically asking us how many times does 1/16 go into 7/8. Why? b/c we are asking how many strikes of 1/16 does it take for the nail to go 7/8 (in. or we could say distance) Again this is a division problem. We can turn this into a multiplication problem by taking the reciprocal of 1/16. This makes the problem: 7/8 time 16/1. This results in 112/8. When we simplify we get 14.
