It defines which laws can and cannot be enforced so it does have something to do with everyday life.  For instance, the Supreme Court decided just a few days ago that the Police can enter a home without a warrant if they suspect evidence is being destroyed.  That means the way that the police can conduct business is different than before the ruling - all based on the way the judges interpret the constitution.
