Yes. For a brief explanation. A function maps one value of an independent variable (in this case x) and maps it or plots it to a single value of y. In other words, for ANY value of x that you plug in to that equation, you get DIFFERENT y values. For example: x=0-> y=-2 but x=1->y=-4 I hope this helps!
