2 square root 32 - 5 square root 128

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, for this particular problem, we have to simplify the number inside the square root. Let's begin with 2 root 32. The 32 inside the radical, can be written as 4 times 8. The root of 4 is 2, thus the 2 comes out of the root( radical), and is multipled by the 2 that was originally outside, this makes the problem 4 root 8. Now the 8 can be written as 2 time 4, we know the 4 simplifies to 2, so the 2 comes out of the root and is multiplied by the 4 that is outside, this makes this part 8 root 2.........

For this second part, 5 root 128, l28 can be written as 4 times 32, the 4 simplifies to 2, which is taken out of the root and is multiplies by 5, this makes the problem 10 root 32. Now we know how 32 breaks down, b/c we saw it in the other part of the problem. 10 root 32 10 root 4*8 20 root 8 20 root 4*2 40 root 2

now we have: 8 root 2 - 40 root 2 which gives us -32 root 2

thank you sir :)
