They add up to more than 380, because some of it overlaps. (i.e. the people there are some people who watch VHS (part of the 185 people) and some of those 185 people will also watch DVD's too. (part of the 72) so we will have overlapping people))

now to find the exact number of people who watched VHS, the answer is given in the problem, it says that 185 people responded and said that they ONLY watch VHS. The fact that 75 people said they watched VHS and DVD is irrelevant, because we are only looking for those that watched VHS.
