hi! I like the course because you get a lot of study material, as well as the book along with it. It uses python, which allows you to do some more advanced things more quickly, so I think it's a good language to start with, although graphics with python are a bit limited... teachers are good.

A compiler converts human readable code into data (bytes) that can be fed into a state machine (the interpreter).
