solve the following system of linear equations by substitution: 3x+3y=18 and 2y=-10+4

OpenStudy (smurfy14):

x=9 y=-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide 2 from 2y=-10x+4 to get: y=-5x+2. Then substitute this equation into the other one, to make it look like this: 3x+3(-5x+2)=18. Solve for x. Then substitute x into one of the original equations to get y.
