If S. Hawking is right and black holes evaporate, then what do you think happens to the information that has been "consumed" by them? Can we even trace their history? If the black hole evaporated with all the information "consumed" by it and left no trace of itself at all, then we would have a sort of permanent information loss. It would be like a murderer who killed thousands and then removed ALL of the information about his victims and even his very existence.

It is one of impending questions of modern physics. Infact Hawking has also suggested that the information in these black holes is sent off to another "baby universe" which springs from this black hole, in other dimensions. Maybe thats how our universe started
