I believe we multiply 40 by 0.05, then subtract that product from 40
The answer is $38. $40 x .05 (since we will convert percentage into decimal form) =$2 so, $40 - $2 = $38 is the price after the discount
Quicker is to note that if the shirt has been reduced by 5%, then he will only be paying 95% of the original price. So $40 x .95 = $38
