A(3,4) B(5,-2) What is the midpoint of AB? I know the answer I just don't know how to get it. Help would be great!<3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

think of taking an average of the two points... so: (x2-x1)/2 = x coordinate of midpoint (y2-y1)/2 = y coordinate of midpoint

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where x2 and x1 are the x components of the two points (just choose one to be (x1, y1) and (x2, y2). it doesn't matter which you choose, just keep them consistent and watch for subtracting negative numbers (that would be adding).)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, if a = (x1, y1) and b = (x2, y2) you'd have midpoint: (5-3)/2 for x and (-2-4)/2 for y so your point is (1, -3)
