OpenStudy (gw2011):

You can use proportions to solve this problem. 20 seconds/1 quart = 60 seconds/x quarts 20x = 60 x =3 So 3 quarts can be filled in 1 minute 1 minute/3 quarts = 60 minutes/x quarts x = 180 quarts So 180 quarts can be filled in 1 hour Since the problem is looking for 5 hours, you need to multiply by: (180 quarts)(5) = 900 quarts can be filled in 5 hours Since there are 4 quarts to 1 gallon, you convert the quarts by dividing by 4: 900 quarts/4 = 225 gallons Therefore, 225 gallons can be filled in 5 hours
