Does (w^2 - 5w + 6) - (-3w + 2w +7) equal 4w^2 - 3w - 1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes ...if the expression is (-3w^2+2w+7) instead of (-3w+2w+7)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

otherwise the expression is w^2-4w-1

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

nice trick is to change subtraction to addition and flip all the signs to the right \[(w^{2}-5w+6) - (-3w^{2}+2w+7) = (w^{2}-5w+6) + (3w^{2}-2w-7)\] \[=4w^{2}-7w-1\]
