On a number line, find the midpoint of a segment with the following endpoints: A = -10 and B = 20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The Mid point lies at 15 as the interval is (-10 to 0)= 10 Points and (0 to 20)= 20 Points

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would i use 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1) 5.5 2) 12 3) 5 4) 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you elaborate the question..so that its easy for me to answer it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like , what answer choice would it be , because you said it =20 points . and thats not one of the choices

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is 10 as close to 20 as it is to -10?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The midpoint formula is (x1 + x2)/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Or you could have used the 15 answer derived by lakshmandornala and add that to the smaller number (or subtract it from the bigger number).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ djvu she didn't ask for mid point on particular axis, its on number line na?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Has to be on a number line.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would it be 10 ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is (-10 + 20)/2 = 10 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is -10 + 20 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then it can (-10+20)/2 =5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5 is correct.
