x^2-10x+24

OpenStudy (angela210793):

wht abt this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you're factorising: (x-6)(x-4) if you're trying to find out x; x = 6, x = 4

OpenStudy (angela210793):

=(x-4)*(x-6) so roots r X=4 and X=6

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

There is nothing to solve. This is just an expression. We can simplify (factor) it, we can set it equal to zero and find the roots, we can set it equal to ANY number and find the solutions (real or complex), we can graph it... etc. I am finding that many students who are asking for help on openmath 1) Don't really know what they are asking for (they blindly copy a problem.) and 2) Some people who answer just "give answers" with zero explanation or insight.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2-10x+24 =x^2-6x-4x+24 =x(x-6)-4(x-6) =(x-4)(x-6) if u r factorising = (x-4)(x-6), if u r solving, (x-4)(x-6)=0 x-4=0 x=4 else, (x-4)(x-6) x-6=0 x=6
