Determine the angle x in the triangle given below with AC = 2 and BC = 13. (pic attached this time :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=sin-1(2/13) x=8.5 degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my choices are

OpenStudy (anonymous):

arccos(5/13)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b) arcsin(2/13)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c) arctan(13/5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b is the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what does the arc do in the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

d) arccos (2/13) e) arcsin(13/2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

arcsin indicates sin inverse function. arccos means cos inverse....like wise. its a notation for indicatin trignometric inverse functions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok cool thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why was it sin^-1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry I mean sin -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because we had sin(x)=2/13 and so for findin x we had to take sine inverse :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is the answer still arcsin(2/13)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the sin(x)=2/13 correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why cant we use sin2/13 straight up to find the angle? thanks for your help Brackett
