how to find a minimum and maximum number among two values x and y. without comparing them???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i guess wat ever operation u'd do for finding the largest will involve comparison some where...infact u say this numberr is larger COMPARED to the other number . get it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no . we need to use add and subraction to figure out which is correct ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

division,multiplication and so on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea. check this. say u subtract x-y and find this is positive, u essentially say x-y> which is x>y(comparison) say u divide them x/y and find this's greater than 1 then u write x/y>1 and hence x>y...(comparison) again.

see this .. to find maximum .......... max=((x+y)+|x-y|)/2;
