In the polynomial what number should replace the ? to make it a diff. of squares? x2+?x-25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would it be 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah. 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, it would be zero. x^2-25=x^2-5^2 (diff. of squares.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x2-1? would that be (x+1)(x-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oooooh!! x2 means x^2. i thought it was 2x. it would need to be 0 i think. this can be rewriten as (x+5)(x-5) right? so o would make the x cancle out and make the perfect square
