is there anything known as four-dimensional ?
as of now, by the space-time continuum hypothesis, we consider time as the fourth dimension. so now our eucledian system has 3 dimensional spatial axes and a time axes.

there is mathematically a four dimensional or even higher dimensional existence of objects in space. A four dimensional cube is called a tesseract. Here the fourth dimension means the fourth dimension of SPACE. However as our human minds cannot perceive more than three dimensions, we can only see a three-dimensional projection of a 4D Tesseract. Consider this : If u link two points (0-D) u get a line(1-D), if you link 2 lines u get a sheet(2-D), if u link 2 sheets u get a cube(3D). Similarly if you link analogically link 2 cubes through a fourth spatial dimension u can obtain a tesseract. Dont try to imagine it in ur mind..it cant be imagined:) Hence we can only see 3D projections of a tesseract. Check out on Wikipedia The premier theories of physics predict the existence of 11 dimensions, ie: 1 time dimension and 10 spatial ones. These results come out because these theories which are very elegant in describing most physical phenomena, also throw out some bonus results...and we assume these must be true as well..coz the whole theory is consistent with observation...However, our perception of these higher dimensions is limited due to the limited nature of our brains....Reply for more discussion...its very interesting
what say?
thnq is an unusually short form of thank you.
him1618 was saying about string theory..
yeah....
for a non scientist approach to string theory, i strongly recommend brian greene books: the elegant universe, the fabric of the cosmos and the hidden reality.. the ideas were fascinating!
wt a coincidence..m reading fabric of the cosmos..though ive read a lot of hawking and stuff..u a scientist?
yeah, i've read a lot of hawking too.. nope, i'm not a scientist..i'm a high school teacher of physics and i'm just interested in such stuffs..how about u?
m just 18..though ive been interested in these things since 12...wanna be a theoretical physicist...looking fr a way to do that from india...no respect for research here....m stuck with engineering here
come to chat sir
u got a promotion or something?
my mum got one too....:)
i shldve got it 2...bt no such system in my school....i ws bored through kg..my angel of a grandma had taught me everything b4hand
Even i want to be a physicist and sadly it isn't a "well-known or appreciated" profession. i have a doubt here about the dimensions. It is said that the human mind can perceive only 3 dimensions. If so, then how is it possible to talk about the 4th and other dimensions...something which we cant perceive...how can we understand that?
We cannot imagine or visualize higher dimenisions..However mathematically we can predict them as the result of certain theories
oh! i dint kno i cant imagine a 4th dimension. i thought if a 3 dimensional figure is a solid that we see from outside, then a 4 dimensional figure would be one that we see from inside
no..but in 3d u can think of a tesseract like this A cube inside another cube, with all their corresponding vertices linked
