One passenger is in a moving plane. The passenger throws a ball up, and the path of the ball is straight up and down for his frame of reference. A stationary observer on the ground however, sees the passenger moving with the velocity "v", and the ball moving in a parabolic pathway. They both observe the ball to be in the air for the same amount of time. Why is it that we can not perform any experiment that will allow us to whether an object is moving in uniform motion?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

I believe the answer is because time and space are not absolute values. In order to quantify an experiment, you have to be able to establish a basis from which to measure from. if I recall correctly that is.
