Given a set of 2x2 matrices, how can I determine if they span the vector space M22?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you make the rref of the matrix you will the the span

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the linear span

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do I convert all 2x2 matrices into a single matrix? Like \[(a & b \ c & d) = (a \ b \ c \d)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know what you mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a b c d ----- > a b c d Sorry, the equation editor didn't format my last post.

I don't think you can make that, you can get the span of it this can result in a single information to determinate the matrix, it could also be 2 informations, no more than that, I'd do the rref of the matrix then I'd get the span out of it which might be a single vector

Can you explain your answer again then? I don't understand it. I find the RREF of what matrix? I have a set of four 2x2 matrices and I need to determine if they span the vector space V = M22

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'd get the span individually then compare then to see if it is the same, and if I understood the question they will be
