Say you have a job. You get paid $15 per hour for every hour you work, and you are only allowed to work 40 hrs a week. DOMAIN = How many hours you can work [0,40] RANGE = How much money you can make [ 0 , 600 ] This is as real as it gets. :)

Theoretical = abstract, a general idea. The domain = "input" , can be values of x, or y , or z etc. Can be money, can be force, or any other physical quantity we like. Range = output. can be money, time, force, a range of values of x, y, z, etc.
