I strongly suggest for you to read ASP.NET 3.5 For Dummies (Ken Cox). It's a step-by-step book which will teach you the fundamentals

ASP.NET is a part of the Microsoft .NET framework, and a powerful tool for creating dynamic and interactive web pages.

To learn ASP.NET, you should have basic understanding of:
1.) HTML, XML and the basics of building Web pages
2.) Scripting languages like JavaScript or VBScript
3.) The basics of server side scripting like ASP or PHP

I suggest you go through www.w3schools.com and try to get an overview and then start reading some books.
