Cells divide and pass their genetic materials to the daughter cells. They enter a cell cycle in which they divide. The cell cycle has check points that regulates the division of the cells. If these check points detect a damage in the DNA, they halt the cell cycle and try to take care of the damage then proceed. When the cell enters the G0 of the cell cycle , it will not divide due to a signal preventing it from doing so. If the cell gets the ok to proceed then it will enter the G1 phase in which it will proceed to divide.
