Guys i m using win 7 and i want to try ubuntu 10.04.if i install some says i will not be able to get back into win 7 and even if i der wil b some pblms......is it so?????if it so wat r d remedies??????

if you just want to try ubuntu you can usually boot it from a live-dvd without installing it and thus without affecting your win7 installation. it will be slower and i think not all things work in live mode but to just try it and get a feeling its a very nice thing ;)

specify whether your hard-disk is partitioned, to multiple partitions or windows 7 occupies the whole Hard drive.
1)the problem might be arising when Ubuntu re sizes a win7 partition to get installed.
2)if you have a partitioned hard drive, free 6-7 GB of space , then try installing Ubuntu in it .I think it will work well.(manually editing partition
table after inserting the Ubuntu CD/DVD. create a root partition(format it with ext3/4) of size 5.5 gb on the space u freed and 512 mb of swap with the remaining of 6 gb)
3)if your hard disk is not partitioned, get software like EASEUS partition manager/partition magic , install it inside windows to create /free 6-7 gb. then try installing Ubuntu into it as mentioned above.
4)Ubuntu will Recognize Windows 7(not vice verse) and give us a choice in the boot loader.
5)I don't think there will be a problem
6)Take care as any thing can happen while playing with these things so, BACKUP YOUR DATA BEFORE PLAYING WITH FILESYSTEMS OF YOUR HARD DRIVE.

you can install ubuntu on VM Ware , it will solve your problems.

i actuly have that on my windows and it sucks and on that computer i can chang but if i dont ask fast then it goes to that so dont in stall it it just sucks

You can use WUBI to install ubuntu on your machine it will install it correctly for more go to www.wubi.com .

Seconding test789, wubi should install Ubuntu on Windows. It will act as a software program under Windows 7. You can uninstall from Win Control Panel just like any other software. When you reboot after you install wubi, you should see 2 OS choices options. wubi poses no harm to Windows, and you dont have to muck with creating partitions.

u ve trouble wid disk partitioning. use VMware. or use Acronis Disk Director 4 creating partitions.

Yeah its true, when you install ubuntu (mostly) GRUB will be rewritten. What does that mean -> normally when you start up your pc you get a dos windows and ask's you which operation system to start. Because GRUB is overwritten it just starts ubuntu. In ubuntu install your grub again. That will do the job

If you install it without paying attention to install the bootloader, ex: GRUB, then you will have the problem mentioned that only Ubuntu will starts. All the other tips of to create other partitions need to be done in order for you to keep the Dual-Boot, as we say it.
