The picture inside a frame is 3 in. longer than it is wide, and the frame itself has a width of 2 in. on each side of the picture. If the area of the picture including the frame is 108 in2, find the dimensions of the outside edge of the frame.

let width of inner frame = x (x + 2)(x + 2 + 3) = 108 (x + 2)(x + 5) = 108 x^2 + 7x + - 98 = 0 x = 7. so dimensions are 9 and 12...
