Hanna makes her own furniture polish using 25% vinegar and 75% olive oil. Write and solve an equation to determine how much total solution she made if she used 2 cups of vinegar. Show your work.

Assume that x is the amount of vinegar, y is the amount of olive oil, and s is the total amount of solution. Thus, the amount of vinegar + amount of OO is equal to the amount of solution. x+y=s We know that since there will be 3x more olive oil, that y=3x So substitute and we get 4x=s So if she used 2 cups of vinegar, then 4(2)=8 cups of solution
