What is the different between using

and in HTML?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Div's aren't aligned, you need to align them in the right place. Tables act like the kind of table you fill out when your signing up for something... Or like in word when you go: Insert->Table. Tables are better for INFORMATION. Divs are better for LAYOUTS.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Once upon a time tables were relied upon to layout HTML, but now they are only supposed to be used for actual tables, as he said, a way to layout a collection of data in a readable form, not a way to layout the entire webpage. div is a way to lay out the entire webpage now.

Much simpler, divs are the correct tag to struct the page. Tables should be used to structure... talbes. This is a more semantically correct approach. Besides being the right way to go, divs are much more flexible and versatile than tables.

<div> marks a DIVision on the page. <table>, as explained, marks a tabular content. So, you use <div> to mark blocks on your layout. Just a remind: try to learn the new HTML5 tags that will substitute those <div> blocks.
