There are different kinds of interpreters (such as language interpreters or interpreters of literature. What kind of interpreter do you mean?

In the case, as a language interpreter, one must translate the literal content of the words (their meaning) and also capture the nuances, idiomatic uses, and cultural context that is part of the message being interpreted. For example, English expressions are often confusing to interpreters---"I am feeling blue." In poetry, words and images must be analyzed and broken down to successfully interpret an overall theme and message intended by the poet.
