Interesting Puzzle to be solved. Mr. Z takes one random card shown below and informs to Mr. X only rank (K or Q or 6 etc ) and informs to Mr. Y only the suite (whether it is club or diamonds etc). Clubs: K, Q, 6, 5, 4 Diamonds: A, 5 Hearts: A, Q, 4 Spades: J, 8, 7, 4, 3, 2 Mr. X: I don't know what the card is. Mr. Y: I know you don't know what the card is. Mr. X: Oh, I know what the card is now. Mr. Y: Oh, I also know what the card is now. Can you guess what the card is?
Five of diamonds
Please explain
Ok, the first statement tells you that it's not: Clubs: K, 6 or Spades: J, 8, 7, 3, 2 because as these are the only cards of their rank, Mr. X would immediately know which card had been picked.
The second statement tells you that the card must be in a suit that has only cards that are also in another suit: Diamonds or Hearts.
The third statement eliminates the aces because if Mr. X had been told the card was an ace, he would still not know what it was at this point.
how come you eliminated the hearts-Q and heart-4 ?
Because if Mr. Y had been told that the card was a Heart, by the fourth statement, he would still not know what the card was.
thank you :) I were not using the fourth statement..
No problem :) Good question, where did you get it from?
one of my colleague told me...
Oh right.
