why trans fat is bad?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

trans fat causes atheroma formation(fat deposition) in blood vessels , leading to occlusion and diseases like heart disease, stroke etc.............

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The exact biochemical methods by which trans fats produce specific health problems are a topic of continuing research. One theory is that the human lipase enzyme works only on the cis configuration and cannot metabolize a trans fat. A lipase is a water-soluble enzyme that helps digest, transport, and process dietary lipids such as triglycerides, fats, and oils in most – if not all – living organisms. The human lipase enzyme is ineffective against the trans configuration, so trans fat remains in the blood stream for a much longer period of time and is more prone to arterial deposition and subsequent plaque formation. While the mechanisms through which trans fats contribute to coronary heart disease are fairly well understood, the mechanism for trans fat's effect on diabetes is still under investigation. Did it means that trans fat is bad because: trans fat cannot be synthesized by lipase and caused the fat deposition in blood stream. ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

As mentioned in the above note.......lipoprotein lipase enzyme is what which acts on fats and help metabolizing and removing it from the blood stream. The lipase is ineffective against the trans-fat and will increase the level of LDL(cholesterol) in blood which gets deposited in the walls of the blood vessels and later leading on to diseases .

ya. thanks.. now I understand.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

trans fat leads to atherosclerosis which is the hardening of arteries wall due to decomposition of fat.high density lipoprotein (HDL) which deposited in the artery making lumen smaller and thus limit the blood flow.
