The stopping distance d for a car after the brake are applied varies directly as the square of the speed r. If a car traveling 70 mph can stop in 270 ft , how many feet will it take the same car to stop when it is traveling 40 mph? It will take how many feet?

Someone told me 172.8 but that was not right I need a integer or fraction

OpenStudy (amistre64):

lol .... thats cause i used 50 instead of 70 .... typoed myself

OpenStudy (amistre64):

270(40^2)/(70^2) might be better

OpenStudy (amistre64):

270(1600) 270(16) 4320 ---------- = ------- = ------ ... maybe 4900 49 49

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8 88 ---- 49
