x+1<3x+5 Subtract x from both sides giving ... 1<2x+5 Subtract 5 from both sides giving ... -4<2x Dived by 2 on both sides giving ... -2<x

@gianfranco: when you divide by a negative you have to remember and change the sign of the in equation

Phillip If you check back, I did not divide by a negative, I divided by 2. My answer is correct.
