What are the 3 main types of enzymes used in the digestive system of the human body? Also what are their substrates and what they break down into??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1)proteases and peptidases split proteins into their monomers, the amino acids. 2)lipases split fat into three fatty acids and a glycerol molecule. 3)carbohydrases split carbohydrates such as starch and sugars into simple sugars such as glucose, the simplest sugar on earth. 4)nucleases split nucleic acids into nucleotides. source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digestive_enzyme

and name of enzyme depends on the substrate upon which its acting. eg maltase acts on maltose, dna'se acts on dna, lipases on lipids, proteases on proteins and lipases for lipids.
