I am trying to solve a rational expression: y-2/y-7=5/y-7. I know that the LCD is y-7 but I am having a hard time figuring how to start this problem.

You can multiply both sides by y-7 giving you y-2=5 and then y=7. Assuming those y-7's are meant to be in brackets.
