Have you done 2D linear algebra ? with \[\vec{a} = x \vec{i} + y \vec{j}\] : fondamentally, it is the same principle for number : a complex number is the sum of a real par (Real number), and an imaginary number, fo unit "i", where i² = -1

It was invented in Italy, by Cardano and Ferarri (the former stole it from the later when he died :) ). It was used as a method to solve 3rd degree equation, and was shocking at the epoch ("What, we use something different from real, and end up with real solution ? madness !"). But nowaday, it is of many uses.

where x is called real part and is a real no and y is called imaginary part and is also a real no.

a complex no. is for ex: z=3+7i
