A mini license plate for a toy car must consist of a two letters followed by a one digit odd number. Each letter must be a J or a Z. Repetition of letters is permitted. Use the counting principle to determine the number of points in the sample space. Construct a tree diagram to represent this situation. List the sample space. Determine the exact probability of creating a mini license plate with a Z. Give solution exactly in reduced fraction form

i would say there are 20 possibilities, since there are 5 possible numbers times 2 possible numbers times 2 possible numbers again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i would draw a tree that has two branches to start

OpenStudy (anonymous):

j and z right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then each of those branches should have two branches

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then each of those four should have 5 branches each (and yep j and z)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then if you count the possibilities at the top of the tree you have 20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that clear?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what would it be.. 1 3 for second line and then the 5 lines under that would be 7, 9 11 13 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

||||| ||||| ||||| ||||| | | | | | | *

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how about that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not a great tree tho to be honest

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol so 1 and 3 on line 1j and 1z then 5,7,9,11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well the two single lines up from the star are j and z since those the two possibilities for the first character

OpenStudy (anonymous):

each of those lines has a "j line" and "z line" linked to it and then the final bunches of 5 lines are the odd numbers less than ten

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes its the same as the png but vertical!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

er same question different person, lol. I just did this one with someone else :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here is a horizontal version of the same tree \[attached\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got this one done... :) thank you ..
