What is special about one-to-one functions and what types of line tests verify that a function is one-to-one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well a one to one function is special because for each element in the range there is exactly one answer.

OpenStudy (asadkarim7):

they can be inversed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A function is 1:1 if it passes the vertical line test and the horizontal line test as well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This means that if you place a line on the graph then the function passes over the line only once! either vertically or horizontally

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Therefore a vertical parabola fails the test in the Y axis :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So how would i answer that question in a few short sentences?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A 1:1 function has a single value for each element and it passes the horizontal and vertical line test.
