if im right; it keeps track of the movement of each piece from lowest to highest;

the lowest point of x is x = y ; the highest point of x is x=4

the lowest point of y is y = z ; the highest point of y is y=4

the lowest point of z is z = 0 ; the highest point of z is z=4
