17=26-x
x = 9
Add x to both sides, then subtract 17 from both sides.
that didnt help me i dont understand
Do you agree that I can add any constant to both sides of the equations and it would remain intact? For example, 2 + 4 = 6 --> (2+4)+8 = 6+8? The same holds true for subtraction as well. To find x, you need to bring all the numbers to one side and take x to the other.
Here's a video that explains how to solve these: http://www.khanacademy.org/video/simple-equations?playlist=Algebra Here are some examples that have been worked out: http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/57616.html http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/57620.html http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/57621.html http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/57301.html http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/57648.html http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/62018.html
