Question

I am working on my personal statement for college and the question is this:

Describe the world you come from-for example, your family, community, or school- and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations.

So I was thinking of writing about my childhood, coming from a place where there was so much war, having parents who never had the opportunity to go to school because there was always a war going on, and maybe connecting that to how I came to the United States and having the opportunity to go to school and going to college.
If you have any ideas .. tht wld be great thx

I enjoy this topic because it has a wide range of topic to write from. It makes perfect sense because "the world you come from" really does influence who you've grown up to become. For you, it's because of your childhood that really made you the person you are today. I like how you made your decision of writing rather personal.

I think telling your story about the challenges you faced in leaving the war-torn place, your adjustment to a new country/culture, and dealing with change will show your resiliency, development in character, and maturity. Provide enough personal details to convey to the reader your unique story of what happened. I'm sure you have been a support to your parents and family as you shared these changes. Talk about what your interests are and what you may be interested in studying and/or considering as career areas. Good luck!
