hey guys just now i installed ubuntu 10.04.The pblm is that it requires software 4 playin ny type of audio video files.........wer i can get those?

ubuntu is restricted you can use linux mint based on ubuntu but it come with all needed software to play videos & MP3s

Double click your file (A MP3 file for an example.) and open it with a player. The player will tell you that it needs some codecs to play the file and request your permission to go and find them.

Allow it so it'll download the required codecs and you'll be able to play those files then.

To hear music use Rhythm Box,banshee.
To watch movie use vlc.

sudo apt-get install vlc

go to Ubuntu menu.........
open software center......Type gsteamer in the search column of the software center.......check for needed plugins and click install.......Install especially the bad/ugly plugins to play windows media codecs......... Don't forget to install VLC player also........it is the best available for Ubuntu(I think).
Or download Ubuntu tweak (a software available as .deb) ....install....
open it from menu..........find out the option ubuntu restricted extras is (?applcations menu of ubuntu tweak) .....click apply.......

the easiest way to install the ubuntu restricted extras (which are required to listen to audio and play movies) is to go to the terminal and type

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

try amrok or vlc some times all you need is to install the plugin req. its simple!
