The number of single parents in the United States is on the rise. More than fifty percent of children are raised in a home with only one parent. This social plague is not the result of war, famine, or disease but a dangerous shift in cultural norms beginning with the baby boomers. The acceptance of putting personal interest above commitment to family, the hyper market of sexually, and the shift from local role models to dominate national entertainment models, each contribute to the devastating impact of single parenthood.
