Suppose that a box has a volume of 100 cubic centimeters and that the area of the bottom of the box is 50 square centimeters. Find the height of the box?
I would guess that since the bottom area is 50 square centimeters..and it's a box, meaning that each side has the same area...
that you would multiply something by something to get 50 square centimeters..to get the area side..
and whatever number you multiplied by itself to get 50...would be the height....if that makes any sense. :P
so 50/100 would give me the answer
You need to multiply two numbers together that are the same, to get 50. Whatever number that is would be the height, I believe...
no, 50x = 100. x = 100 / 50.
Disregard my random guessing. hickninjas answer is probably better...:P
typo correction: volume = length x width x height. They have given you area of the bottom, which is length x width, and they've given you the VOLUME. So the area of the bottom (50) times the unknown height (x) equals the volume (100). 50 times what is 100?
