9/8 divide by 3/16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(9/8)/(3/16) When you divide by a fraction, you multiply by its reciprocal... So this is 9 16 --- x -- 8 3 Cross cancel and then multiply.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3/8 ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not quite...here's what you get after the cross cancel: 3 2 --- x--- = 6 1 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The 3 cancels with the 9 leaving 3 on top. And the 8 cancels with the 16 leaving 2 on top. Make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you're left with 3 x 2 = 6 since the numbers on the bottom cancelled out (with things on top).
